JIGSAW ARTICLE

Funding America’s Nonprofits: The Nonprofit Industrial Complex’s Hold on Social Justice I found this article to be so interesting and useful when it comes to learning more about the negative impacts that can occur at agencies. This article provided some background to the aspect of  how nonprofits tie into social justice issues. The Nonprofit Industrial Complex (NPIC), is a system that forces nonprofits to professionalize, having them focus on maintaining their funding sources rather than fulfilling their mission! Nonprofits are fundamentally different from corporations in two major ways; their funds are donated, not “earned,” and they are assumed to meet a need that serves the public good. "The transition of social wel fare provision from the public sector to the private has led the government to develop and utilize a complicated system that consists of contracting inter- governmental funding through grants and loans, other funding regulations, and a serie...

Theory of Change @ L4L

Theory of Change at Learning 4 Life After reading this article, I found it helpful and insightful. I enjoyed the worksheet that was provided. The organizational chart was helpful to visually see how someone would set these goals and then plan steps to achieve them. When you plan long term and have a larger picture in mind, you must plan for things to go wrong or have multiple avenues. When your plan does not go the way you thought it would, then it is important to not get discouraged. Making a stronger plan or collaborating with others may help achieve a goal. Or maybe thinking about a completely new goal if that one is not achievable yet!    “The Theory of Change tool not only helps to clearly articulate and connect your work to your bigger goal, it also allows you to spot potential risks in your plan by sharing the underlying assumptions in each step” For my student organization, the honor society, one step towards induction is to write out SMART goals. We us...

Mission Statement   PASA’s mission is to expand and improve quality after-school, summer, and other expanded learning opportunities for the youth of Providence by organizing a sustainable, public/private system that contributes to student success and serves as a national model. After going through the website I was able to see the variety of programs that they offer to students and schools. They provide hands-on learning to expand their learning strategy and appeal student needs. Students are able to develop a sense of belonging and ownership of their learning,. I love all of that they provide a wide variety of learning options to encourage creativity. I also really like the events and news that they share on the website. This allows the community to stay involved and be able to share events easily.   If I was able to choose a Future Position within the organization, I would choose to be the Executive Director!! Currently the Executive Director is ...
