PASA Blogg Postt
Mission Statement
PASA’s mission is to expand and improve quality after-school, summer, and other expanded learning opportunities for the youth of Providence by organizing a sustainable, public/private system that contributes to student success and serves as a national model.
After going through the website I was able to see the variety of programs that they offer to students and schools. They provide hands-on learning to expand their learning strategy and appeal student needs. Students are able to develop a sense of belonging and ownership of their learning,. I love all of that they provide a wide variety of learning options to encourage creativity. I also really like the events and news that they share on the website. This allows the community to stay involved and be able to share events easily.
If I was able to choose a Future Position
within the organization, I would choose to be the Executive Director!!
Currently the Executive Director is Hillary Salmons
She manages the oversight of PASA
and its three strategies. She also has primary responsibility for community
engagement and fundraising efforts.
Previously, Hillary led an education
initiative called Rhode Island Scholars where business leaders spoke to middle
school students around the state on the importance of college and taking math
and science courses in high school. She also served as the Vice President for
Program Development for Health & Education Leadership for Providence
(HELP), a now-defunct coalition focused on improving the health and education
of the children of Providence.
She has a MA in Public
Administration from the University of Oklahoma and a BA from Harvard
University.

I
can see myself in this position because of my long-term career goals. I push
myself every day to challenge my performance. I enjoy taking the leadership
role and fundraising. I know that my work experience over the years and drive
would allow me to fit the qualifications.
Reviewing
the current E.D. Education, I believe that my own credentials would make me a
perfect fit for the position. Social Work is a passion for me and now that I can
tie in the non-profit portion of it as well.
Being
involved in student organizations has helped me gain more confidence in raising
funds for events and coordinating them for the campus. Participating in
leadership student organizations has also allowed me lead others and delegate
duties.
The role of an
Executive Director provides leadership and guidance for an organization. In a
non-profit setting, they are responsible for managing staff, increasing fundraising,
implementing new programs and working with board directors. The non-profit
organizations include foundations, public charities and social advocacy groups.
Questions to ask:
1. Can she explain
more about the (RFP) more in-depth. How can you amend a grant?
