Defining a Non-Profit?!

A non-profit organization, is commonly known as an institution tat does not make profits. The organization receives funding from various sources and then provides free or reduced resources to communities. Non-profits are dedicated to furthering a particular social cause or advocating for a shared point of view. They are tax exempt or charitable, meaning they do not pay income tax on the money that they receive for their organization. They can operate in religious, research, or educational settings.

Some examples of these include, American Red Cross, Human Rights Champaign, Community Action Agencies and the YMCA.



Some characteristics of a non-profit are the importance of a mission statement and a vision statement. Nearly every nonprofit has an executive board with community leaders who oversee the organizations daily operations. These volunteers help the organization work, financial responsibilities, and staff members who share a commitment to the mission. Lastly, by law and by custom, nonprofits are focused on providing benefit to the community at large and to serving public. 




Something that I want to learn more about after reading this article are more research and statistics about the benefits of working in the nonprofit sectors. I want to learn about my own community and my daughters. What are the benefits that each non-profit provides in the communities and proof behind it.

              If a youth was to come up to me and asked me about the Black Lives Movement I feel that I would be prepared to have that conversation. I would describe it as a powerful social justice movement and a topic that needs to have more advocacy.  This movement is not just about saving black lives but all loss of life. Internship-Mission and Vision Statement

"Learning for Life (L4L) is a research-based, multi-faceted community and college partnership that links students to a network of services, supports and opportunities. This collaborative work fortifies students for college success and removes any challenges that they may encounter in keeping college a central priority in their lives. The L4L staff team includes networks of peer mentors/advocates called Navigators, who are supported by Lead Navigators, three Educational Support Facilitators, a Data Specialist, an Assistant Director and a Director. Hiii Everyone!!!! #goals

This post is to get me back in on my work grindddd. Graduation is coming near and I wanted to make sure I was on my shishhhhhh I am making a commitment to myself that I will continue to  make these efforts to completing the work!!! This blog post is to remind myself why I have worked so hard through the years here at Rhode Island College and why I wan to continue.      I do all of this for my daughter and will not give up because I am strong for her. I am so thankful for all of the communities that I have created and look forward to continuing my advanced education  here at RIC and hopefully then pursue law!
